Bosalita with a Forelock Tie

Bosals are the nosepiece part of a hackamore outfit, though the terms are often used interchangeably. Hackamores were the old time vaqueros’ tool of choice for starting colts, and are still preferred by some modern horsemen for the initial stages of training. No matter when it’s used in the training process, the same principles apply: larger diameter bosals are used at the beginning, and as training progresses, increasingly smaller bosals are used, since the advancing horse should require less contact area to initiate response.

Good fit is imperative. Feel is facilitated by the combined weight of the heel knot and the wraps of the mecate tied above it.
