Capriola Slobber leathers-
Slobber straps/leathers are strips of leather used to connect a mecate to a snaffle bit, functioning much like rein chains do for romal reins. Made to be easily removed and replaced, they serve to reduce wear and tear by keeping what might be an expensive horsehair mecate out of the water when a horse takes a drink after a long circle. They also provide increased feel for communication between horse and rider, with their width distributing rein pressure more evenly through the bit. Their weight helps horses to sense changes in the rider’s hands more quickly, which is especially important when using a light, small diameter mecate. As plain or fancy as you would like, slobber straps not only provide essential function, but can also be a stylish accent for your “town horse” tack with tooling or even conchos.
