Capriola Get-Down- 16′ Length Various earth tone colors available
Get-Downs can be two things, but their function is the same. The end length of a mecate that’s part of a snaffle bit or hackamore outfit runs from the left side, allowing the rider to leave the rein loop of the mecate in position when he dismounts to lead his horse. A standard mecate is 22 feet. Much shorter, smaller diameter ropes called “get-downs” are used in conjunction with a bridle and bosalita. They are around the horse’s neck just behind the poll with the slack run down through the V of the bosalita and then back to be tucked into the rider’s belt.
