Rein chains are used on romal reins, never on split reins. Much like the slobber straps on a snaffle bit outfit, they help extend the life of valuable rawhide reins while adding weight and feel to your ride. Built strong, but smart, rein chains are designed to break before your rawhide reins do in the event of an accident or mishap, giving you peace of mind without sacrificing durability.

Rein chains are made in a variety of metals, patterns, and styles, most horsemen prefer matching the finish or patina of the chain to their bit. Sometimes made with swivels, rein chains connect via S-hooks at each end, and rawhide or leather connectors are sometimes used between the reins and bit as well.
